Planning Approval Granted by Barnet Council Committee
MSK Design are pleased to confirm that planning approval has been granted by Barnet Council’s Planning Committee for the airspace development at 706 High Road, North Finchley, creating six new self-contained flats above the existing mixed-use building.
The proposal introduces a carefully designed upward extension that complements the proportions and rhythm of the existing façade, delivering much-needed new homes in a highly sustainable town centre location. The new dwellings have been designed in accordance with the Nationally Described Space Standards and Building Regulations M4(1) for accessible dwellings, while ensuring a balanced unit mix suited to local demand.

Early engagement with Barnet Council’s planning and urban design officers shaped the design approach, ensuring that the proposal respects the established character of the High Road and safeguards the amenity of neighbouring properties. The scheme demonstrates compliance with the London Plan, Barnet Local Plan, and Design Guidance SPD, achieving an efficient use of airspace through sensitive integration of modern design detailing, high-quality materials, and proportionate massing.

Following a detailed officer recommendation for approval, the scheme was granted planning permission at Committee, recognising the project’s contribution to housing delivery within a sustainable, well-connected urban location.
